I love writing prompts as starter activities, here are prompts that are specific to winter. Enjoy!
In this activity, students generate ideas of things they are thankful for. From that list, they then write notes or poems for those things that they are most grateful for.
Why did the Pilgrims leave England? Did they find what they were seeking? How long did they have to sail on the Atlantic ocean before reaching land? What did the children do while on the ship?
These are all great questions that substitute teachers could address if the lesson plan ends early.
